In my Tip No. 4 I made reference to whom I consider the most bunch of people at a live event – the AV guys. At every event, I make a beeline to the crew and get to know their names (so I can make reference to them at the end of the evening), when we can do a sound check and whether there are any issues I, as the compere or MC, need to know. I can’t over-estimate the importance of getting a good rapport with these guys…as without them, nothing happens!
Its much the same when I’m a presenter for a corporate video, doing an audition or doing a piece to camera on the red-carpet. Introducing yourself to the auto-cue operator, the cameraman and the floor manager will help things run smoothly. Coming across as a prima donna or an egoist gets you nowhere.
