Whether you’re a performer, delegate or organiser always make sure you engage with others at an event. Don’t over do it, or you maybe accused of being a “profesional networker” and we don’t want that do we!
I’m of the opinion that “you never know who you might meet” still rings true – unless you actively engage with others when you’re out and about, you could miss out on a significant work or social opportunity.
But there’s something else more important….your credibilty as a speaker or entertainer. I’m sure you’ve all had experience of a celebrity who rocks up to an event, speaks, presses some flesh then leaves in a flurry of activity and flashing lightbulbs – really top people don’t do that and neither should you. Be humble, go and speak to individual members of the audience or others who may have been on stage with you. Find out who they are and what they do, listen to them, show interest in what they do and say – don’t be aloof.
