One of my clients (for whom I host weddings and corporate functions) said to me recently, and I’m paraphrasing a bit here, “I like you Jeremy because you talk with the staff, the chefs and the band” – being a “not backward at coming forward” sorta guy, I think that’s part of the the deal.
Any event or function which involves mass catering and/or a mass of guests needs teamwork. Without that, things can and do go wrong. As important are the technicians who put the sound systems together. So what can you do if you’re ever thrust into the spotlight as an MC? I think it boils down to these three things:
1. Meet with the client/organiser beforehand. That maybe several weeks before a function and not just once.
2. If there is to be an independent AV crew, then get to know them. The same applies if the locations is providing technicians.
3. If catering is involved, get your “hands dirty” by introducing yourself to the catering team.
