On occasions, I’m asked to handle a question and answer with a speaker who’s just finished his or her keynote speech. These can vary in time depending on the audience and the type of event.
The main thing I’d like to point out is that you must plan, as far as you’re able to, how many questions you ‘ll take from the floor and in what order. The biggest failing in Q&A sessions is that a microphone never seems to be available to those whose voices are weak and feeble!
Even so, as an event host or MC, you must for the benefit of others in the auditorium, repeat word for word what the question was. This gives your guest more time to consider what they are going to say in response and it gives you as MC better control over the proceedings.
