Being An Event Host – Tip No. 57 – Ride The Applause

London, UK

An event I attended at a well-known central London venue had, as it’s awards host, an up-and-coming female tv presenter.

She did well…but here comes the but…BUT, when the audience gives a rapturous round of applause for an announcement, an event host or MC must allow the noise to calm down before moving on to the next point.

On three or four occasions, I and the other people on my table simply couldn’t hear what the presenter was saying as there was so much din. She really ought to have known to pause for a few more seconds before carrying on with the next announcement.
