So You Want To Be A Presenter?

London, UK

Hello Jeremy, thank you for following me, I see you are a presenter, I have a real interest in becoming one one day! Do you have any advice?

This was sent to me on Twitter by a young man called Scott Hill who’s from Crowthorne in Berkshire, UK.

Thanks Scott, here’s my advice:

1. Learn something about the media industry and read all you can about it.

2. Understand what it takes to be a presenter.

3. As you love football, speak to your local radio station about covering non-league matches.

4. Learn the art of public speaking – join a Toastmasters International Club

5. Do singing or acting lessons

6. Get involved – join a drama group.

7. Look for internships at the BBC and elsewhere.

8. Write articles to your local radio station or see if you can do some unpaid/volunteer work for them. (in conjunction with 3)

9. Start to become an expert in something you are passionate about.

10. Learn the technology – microphones, sound, lighting, digital editing.

Don’t attempt to do everything, try and accomplish the first four steps within the next 12 months.

Good Luck.
