Over the past few weeks, I’ve been reading through “Gender, Design & Marketing” by Gloria Moss. Did you know that you can increase people’s perception of the usefulness of a product by changing its design? And that people will pay up to 50% more for a product they like the look of?
Gloria Moss has helped businesses by revealing to them exactly what men and women like in the way of design and the way men and women’s preferences differ. Businesses may think they know what their customers want but research reveals the detailed picture of what in fact male and female customers are looking for. In “Gender, Design and Marketing” she draws on a hundred years of research, as well as her own research, to reveal the specifics of what women like visually in terms of colours, shapes, dimensionality and themes. What this reveals is that many companies are failing to optimise the design of their products or services for audiences of women.
Gender, Design and Marketing – certainly worth a read.
