Death Of Twitter

FailSpam

Over the past three weeks my Twitter account has been hacked. This has meant three lots of account “lock-downs”, general aggravation and plenty of wasted time. In extreme cases, it can affect your health. I’m considering dumping Twitter and Facebook (the latter has its security problems too) and sticking to a single blog and e-mail. Besides, I’m getting a little tired of the continued changes in “strategy” one must adopt to keep ahead of the game. A recent example has been Twitter “lists” which appeared to be a good idea. By using them correctly, you and others could see multiple “followers” in various business environments and respond to them accordingly. Great – until they all disappeared without a trace yesterday morning! A two week gimmick and another waste of time?

If you speak to a PR or internet marketer they’ll say things like “you should spread the word” or “you must be seen everywhere” as if I’m some sort of glamorous female on a huge social whirl. They’re referring of course to the plethora of social media websites (including Twitter and Facebook), social bookmarks like De.licio.us and blog aggregators. That’s all very well if you’re a medium or large-sized brand; then you may have the resources, time and money to throw at the internet and Twittersphere. I, like many others, don’t really have enough time to dedicate to it and would prefer to spend time on Linked-In. This site appears to be aimed at the professional business market-place and includes plenty of contacts in the media, tv presenting, corporate presenting, web tv and so on. But, I do like Twitter and I’ve met some great people through it.

As we speed towards 2010, I’m looking to make my digital life simpler, so it maybe goodbye rather than adieu Twitter.

Decisions, decisions!

UPDATE - Those lists have now returned!
