Guest blogger, Erik Rees, a leading graphologist outlines the basics of the fascinating subject:
THE ANALYSIS OF HANDWRITING
Otherwise known as GRAPHOLOGY, this discipline is the most accurate form of personality and character assessment available to us, when competently practiced.
It works because “handwriting” is a misnomer. It should be called “brainwriting”, because the same brain that gives a person his or her behaviour or body language, also controls the writing movements. A motor-impulse, usually on the left side of the Cortex, produces the action of writing.
You can try a simple experiment. Pretend that you cannot use your hands and imagine that you have a pencil in your mouth or foot and try to sign your name in this way. You will find that you are trying to do exactly the same movements with your mouth or foot, which you have mastered so well with the fingers of your hand.
This demonstrates that the fingers of your hand are only an instrument controlled by your brain and every one of the highly delicate movements thus produced is a reflection of the body language. Any behavioural psychologist will confirm that a person’s body language is utterly revealing! In the case of handwriting, this is even more so, due to the delicacy of the movements produced.
It is not what you write but how you do so, that matters.
There are approximately 300 movements on the average A4 page and every one of them counts. We allow for accidental movements and we can sort out the superficial mood changes from the character traits.
In Europe, most graphologists are psychologists also, using this discipline to improve their work and make the most of available time. The subject is taught as a branch of psychology in Universities.
Unfortunately, in this country, our Establishment is frequently too frightened of the discipline to use it, fearing political as well as social consequences out of their control. This is the result of an ignorance of the subject but the British Institute of Graphologists (BIG), is now beginning to see some progress in this area.
