2009 Prospects

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

London, UK

You may have already seen my Top 10 Prophecies for 2009 over at my other site, Corporate Presenter. This post though is about the future of the internet and the prospect of government interference.

Graham Jones has written two articles concerning this. One was posted in June and entitled “More nonsense from the UK Government about the internet“, and just a day or two ago about the latest ramblings from the seemingly clueless Andy Burnham. Prognosis discusses the matter further and highlights a piece from Charles Arthur in the Guardian.

It maybe very nearly 2009 but it smells of 1984.

One For The Ladies

Last month, I managed to get a few words for LSQ TV with Scott Maslen who plays “Jack” in BBC’s Eastenders. We were discussing Peter Dunne’s “The Dreamers Of Inishdara” which had a run at the Jermyn Street Theatre. Scott is a bit of a character and I enjoyed chatting to him.

Is Jonathan Ross past his sell-by date?

Wednesday, December 24th, 2008

London, UK

You may have seen an article in which the DJ, Paul Gambaccini, decsribed Jonathan Ross as an “icon of greed”.

I met Paul recently, and he struck me as someone who doesn’t mince his words. However, one has to consider that this veiled attack on the BBC heirachy comes just after the announcement that he’s no longer going to present the Sony Awards.

The jury appears to be still “out” over Jonathan as some of the comments here suggest. I’m of the view that he’ll return a better presenter but whether he’ll reach the heights of popularity he’s recently had, I’m not so certain. I feel that the zeitgiest has now changed and reflects the seriousness of the economic turndown. Perhaps presenters with a more sober and reverential manner will be more in demand.

2008 – A Year In Review

Sunday, December 21st, 2008

London, UK

They say that one’s entire life is a learning curve, so you would hardly expect any single year to be different would you! 2008 has been a very interesting, tough yet rewarding year in so many ways. On the professional and personal fronts there’s been a lot to contend with which has left me quite jaded.

You see, I find it difficult to say “no” to certain projects and have to remember I’m no longer 19, on the other hand one must be active in several areas. “Why don’t you do more voice-overs” is the latest clarion call of some of those around me. I not so sure one can dart from camera to voice-work easily as the two require quite different skills. Such are the vicissitudes of being a freelancer.

During 2009, I’ll be holding more seminars for “Communicate With Clarity” and hope to work with business-guru, Geoff Burch. LSQ TV continues as will some radio projects. Vlogging (video blogging) will feature next year as will podcasting.

MIcro-blogging (Facebook & Twitter) continues but for the moment I’ll be leaving you with a couple of things until the New Year. Firstly, see whether you agree with my 2009 prophecies over at Corporate Presenter  and here’s a piece which I covered recently for LSQ TV at the New Players Theatre.

Saw Jack Douglas at the Winter Gardens, Margate in the 1970′s. Funny guy.

Famous Quotes of 2008

London, UK

At my recent seminar,  I said to the gathered audience – “Many people in businesses haven’t “sold” anything for twenty years. The businesses that will survive – and prosper – are the ones that realise this and actually start selling. The secret to success is really that simple”.

This was picked up by Ayd Instone who is an outstanding speaker and someone who’ll you be hearing a lot of in the future. Ayd very kindly mentioned me in his December 2009 newsletter:

More from the Leicester Square TV “fan-cam”. This time our capturista finds BBC TV presenters Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley. Also there is Jimmy Tarbuck whom I first met in 1970.

Blog Grab

Friday, December 12th, 2008

London, UK

Are you looking forward to the Christmas holiday break? I certainly am. Another tough year is nearly over.

Much progress has been made despite mistakes, setbacks and the inevitable man-flu. This blog grab will be the last of 2008 but do watch out for my 2009 predictions which I shall be posting over at Corporate Presenter in a few days time.

So here’s what’s been happening in the near blogosphere over the past few days:

Chris M. at Devil’s Kitchen is clearly very unhappy.

Sicilian weather isn’t looking too good so says Welshcakes Limoncello

James Higham and our new rulers at the EU. Is it the last days of the pound and Westminster?

The brilliant Alan Caruba in reflective mood.

Jennifer Jones and men who are sex offenders.

Naked Capitalism on the precarious state of General Motors.

and finally Raincoaster in a naughty mood.
