This is one match I would have liked to have commentated on for the BBC!

May 16th, 2008 marks the 40th anniversary of the Southern League Cup Final Replay between Margate FC and Ramsgate FC. For Ramsgate, it was their biggest cup match since they were defeated by Watford in the FA Cup some 13 years earlier.
The two-legged final ended in a stalemate. The first leg was played at Margate with the match ending in a 1-1 draw on April 6th and a week later on April 13th the two sides played out a goalless draw at Southwood. Margate won the right to play the replay at Hartsdown and John Fahy scored a hat-trick in the 3-1 victory for Almer Hall’s side. This was Margate’s second only appearance in the Final, having lost to Cambridge United in 1962. There was a combined attendance over the three matches of nearly 12000.

I would like to hear from any Margate FC, Ramsgate FC or neutral supporter who attended any of the three matches and has either press cuttings or a match programme. I’d also like to hear from any Margate fan who attended the Southern League Champions v Cup Winners match in August, 1968. Margate beat Chelmsford at the Essex club’s Writtle Street ground 4-1.
