BBC TV - The Apprentice

Did you find this evening’s episode of BBC TV’s The Apprentice embarrassing? I certainly did.
Like Sir Alan, I was flabbergasted at the lack of intelligence displayed by some of the contestants. I mean, how can you not understand the difference between Halal and Kosher chickens? See for yourself here

Presenting on The Armed Forces

Top BBC TV Presenter, Jeremy Clarkson handled the City Salute earlier this evening from St Paul’s Cathedral. The City of London played host to the Navy, Army and Air force for a unique event to raise awareness of the sacrifices made throughout the world by British servicemen and women, and their families at home.The event, supported by Princes William and Harry, featured the Band of the Royal Marines, Household Cavalry Armoured and Mounted detachments and a fly-past of three RAF Eurofighter Typhoons and Chinook Helicopters.
Tonight we saw two sides of presenter Jeremy. He had to make a wisecrack about Chinook’s and a certain garden on the Isle of Wight and may have caused a few eyebrows to be raised, when he mentioned that the Lord Mayor of London wasn’t Boris Johnson. The current incumbent is, of course, David Lewis.
Later on, he was interviewed on the BBC news about Help for Heroes, a charity of which he is Patron. He was altogether far more serious than earlier. Details of this evenings events are here, with more about Help for Heroes here.

Tips for Radio Broadcasters

Last year, I posted this item about what a radio presenter could do if an attack of the “giggles” occurs:

Very occasionally, one can get the “giggles” whilst reading an item on the radio. Today was such as day. On a second read through of a sports related item, I somehow found a foreign surname to be so funny, I just burst out laughing. Luckily, most of today’s work was pre-recorded and I had plenty of time to recover and start again. Had it been live, I may have had time not to realize the funny side of things - maybe. But pre-recording a piece sometimes has its downfalls.
When the giggles strike you down, try taking these steps:
1. Focus on the task in hand.
2. Bite your lip or the inside of your mouth. The minor pain takes your mind off other matters.
3. If you’re able to, think of something else. Pink elephants are my favourite.
4. Take deep breaths.
